                                                                                    September 3, 2010

Dear Parents and Friends,

The month of September is upon us, as we jumpstart our holiday weekend with a shortened school day. We teachers make use of the afternoon for planning, in-service, and general assessment of the first weeks of the school year.

Magazine Drive – It looks like our magazine collection envelopes have many orders in them! Continue to make sales throughout the weekend, and remember that our final turn-in is Tuesday, Sept. 7. If customers took advantage of on-line purchasing, students will be credited for those sales as well. Thank you for your hard work to sell these magazines!

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23 in the afternoon and evening. In your folder today is the form you should complete to request your preferred conference time. If you are unable to make a conference on that day, please contact your child’s teacher to make other arrangements. Conferences are held at this mid-quarter time to give both you and the teacher the opportunity to share how things have begun for the child’s school year. In addition, it is a good time to nip bad habits in the bud and replace them with better ones.

Child Protection Training – I encourage all of you to complete this year’s Child Protection Training on-line refresher course at your earliest convenience. We do have the apple-picking field trip scheduled for Sept. 15. If you plan to chaperone for the event, you must be current in your training. Be sure to print out or email the completion certificate so that we can record your compliance.

Each year, our students also complete a training session with a diocesan-approved agency, to help them acquire skills to keep themselves safe from uncomfortable situations. Our student training will be held on Friday,

Sept. 17, with a trainer from Catholic Social Services. All students will attend the training unless you advise us that you do not want your child to see the age-appropriate videos. If you have questions or you do not want your child to attend the child protection training, please let me know via note or email, and we will send home the required form for you to sign. Thank you for your cooperation.

Golf Tournament – Bryan Rausch is optimistic for a successful golf tournament, and he could use our help acquiring sponsors, teams, and attendance prizes. It will be helpful to have your team in as soon as possible for food purposes and to allow time to prepare sponsors’ names for display. Thanks for your help!

Auction Update – See enclosed letter from chairpersons Jen Milburn and Marvin Heinen regarding things we need to be doing in preparation for the auction. The best event can be held when we are organized, and doing things ahead of time as much as possible is a key factor to organizing a successful auction. How many items can you bring to the next meeting on Sept. 21?

September tuition is due at this time. I wish to remind those who have not yet applied last year’s Scrip credit may use it when you make your September payment.

Music and Art Class – Guitar classes will begin next week Wednesday, and the format is like last year’s.   Students should bring their guitars, and those who do not attend will gather for other music activities. Cost of classes is $10 per month per student, payable to Blue Grass Shack. Mr. Greg will begin his classes next week as well.

Scrip has been going well. Please continue to place your orders on a regular basis, so that both our school and you can benefit financially. Thanks!!

Please keep Meghan Main and her family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of Grandma Diane Havel. May her soul rest in peace.

Have a great holiday weekend!!                                                 Mrs. Newbold
