Dear Parents and Friends,
Congratulations to the Class of 2010! Our eighth graders will graduate tomorrow evening at the 5pm mass, and kindergarteners graduate this morning at 10am mass. We say goodbye to our eighth graders today, and we wish them much luck in their futures! We look forward to good things ahead for Trevor Bergmann, Jerrica Greten, and Lucas Tiberend.
This morning we recognize the accomplishments of our student at our awards program. It is always rewarding to reflect on their achievements over the year. It often surprises them how much they accomplished, when they hear it all at one time! Thanks for your endurance and diligence in working with us to make the most of your children’s academic year.
I am sure you join me in thanking our kitchen help for this year – Bette Poston, Patty Causey, and Helen Parker. Our lunches are delicious and well-balanced, and the students enjoyed them, even though they had to taste things they sometimes didn’t want to!
Thanks to Sheri Wombacher and Julie Rutkowski for organizing a fun Poker Walk last Saturday, and to all who worked and participated! Special thanks to the winners who donated money back to the school. Although wet at times, the day was fun and we look forward to a bigger event next year!
School Picnic – will be held Monday, beginning at 10:30 at Okaw Valley Park. Students will walk to the park, enjoy field day activities organized by the 7th graders, have lunch, and have free play until about 1:45pm. We must then walk back to school in time for the 2:10 dismissal. All food and drink for the picnic is being provided, so families do not have to send in treats or chips.
Pre-K program coming to St. Agatha’s – Beginning in Fall 2010, we will expand our primary program to include 4-year-olds. While details are not yet complete, the Board made the decision to offer Pre-K at the
4-yr. old level, in response to concerns over the possibility of cuts to the New Athens Elementary program. There is a flyer in your folder today announcing it, and it is important for interested families to contact me to get details as they are worked out.
Along with this change will be a change of teachers as well. You may have heard that Mrs. Taaffe will be leaving us at the end of this school year to move closer to her family in Virginia. We wish her the best of luck, and I know you join me in many thanks for the lives she has touched over her years here. God be with you, Mrs. Taaffe!
Please do not send any more uniforms to school. My office has become a collection point for used/out-grown uniforms, yet they never seem to leave. I am sorry to say that I cannot take these any longer. If someone else wishes to coordinate a uniform swap, I think it is a great idea! However, just bringing them to me is not working. So I will put out what I have at PTF meetings, but I regret that I will no longer be taking them. If you have uniforms to pass on, think of who could fit in them and contact that person directly. That may work best. Thanks for your understanding.
Your final folder for the school year is filled with some important information itemized below:
Summer calendar and Homecoming work schedule is on the back of this newsletter.
Auction donation form/letter – Get a head start this summer!!
2010-2011 School Supply List
Homecoming Parade News – We will once again walk in the homecoming parade as a group, but details need to be worked out. Please send me your email address if you are interested in walking, so that we can communicate about ordering new t-shirts and planning parade details. Thanks!!
Old Science books are being sent home with students today, as we are updating with new Science books next year.
They will serve as a good reference for reports, reinforcement, or even Science Fair projects.
Raffle Tickets for our Winners’ Choice Auction raffle will go home next week…..please look for them on Monday.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Newbold
