The groundwork for Anchorage Waldorf School was laid in 1988 and has since grown into a full-program, independent Waldorf school, offering Waldorf education from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade. We are part of a rapidly growing international community of over 1,000 schools that embrace Waldorf education.
These schools share a common philosophy that was initially developed by Rudolf Steiner. Waldorf Schools are committed to academic excellence and offer their students a rigorous education in preparation for the further education of the child and to meet the challenges of modern life. Waldorf pedagogy nurtures healthy emotional development by conveying knowledge experientially as well as academically.
The heart of the Waldorf philosophy is the belief that education is an artistic process.
Through our rich curriculum and innovative teaching methods, we address the whole child, working to develop clarity in thought, balance in feeling, and conscience and initiative in action.
Our Vision is to "spark and nurture the highest potential in humanity" and we feel we are achieving that, one child at a time.

When moving from the Lower 48 to Anchorage, we were overwhelmed by the options for elementary schools in Anchorage. One thing we knew, we wanted a school that had a solid community and our kids weren't just numbers. We never would have guessed that we would end up in a private Waldorf School. It has been the most wonderful experience in the last 5 years. This community of Faculty and Families supported us in the transition to life in Anchorage. We have been here now through the pandemic and into the current middle school and teen years. Faculty has listened to our concerns, acted where warranted, guided us, and held us as Parents. This school sees the whole family as part of its classroom. The community has come out of the core pandemic years strong and vibrant with a renewed sense of purpose to provide a Waldorf Education to all.

The Anchorage Waldorf School is a Godsend! My children are happy at school, they learn by playing and creating. It's wonderful - I have a 6th grader and a 3rd grader and I feel like they are thriving academically, socially, and spiritually in this environment. I love this school - the teachers are amazing and understanding and are willing to work with families. As a parent, I feel like they listen to my concerns and welcome me into their classrooms so I can participate and be a part of my children's education. If I could give this school 10 stars, I would!!!

I have one daughter in 3rd and one in 7th grade. I love the way my children are respected in school by both students, teachers and staff. They feel like valued members of a community, and I know they will leave the school feeling like they CAN make a difference in the world. I cannot think of another school I would rather have my children go to.
