School Notes

  • Students from age two through the eighth grade will learn foundational academic skills in an environment that is engaging and collaborative. They will demonstrate mastery of grade-appropriate content, and together with their teachers, learn how to work in teams effectively, become creative problem solvers, and conduct their lives with integrity, honor and empathy. The CES curriculum represents what the best of educational research indicates is the effective model for 21st century teaching and learning. Every child in every classroom is receiving the benefits of highly experienced teachers who know and use research-supported best practices. Christ Episcopal School prepares students to thrive beyond the CES experience: in their families, in their community, and in their next educational environment including secondary and post-secondary programs. The school program focuses on the traditional 3R`s (reading, writing and math) in tandem with four critically important skills today`s children will need for their future success. These four skills are described as The Four C`s and include the ability to think critically, be creative, communicate effectively and collaborate with a team. Firmly grounded in the Episcopal school tradition, CES adds an important fifth C to the Four C`s. The fifth C is character. In all that it tries to accomplish, Christ Episcopal School never forgets it commitment to maintaining focus on the global community in which we live and assisting its children in developing a heart for others and a desire to serve.

Christ Episcopal School excels in providing a personalized educational experience with a strong emphasis on both academic excellence and character development. Our oldest transferred to CES during the pandemic. Three years later, we have two kids in the lower school that are thriving. Every teacher knows every student - even in other grades. Middle schoolers know lower school students - where does that happen? There is a big emphasis on community. The curriculum is fantastic - rigorous and personalized. Character development is integral. Our family enthusiastically supports CES and plans on attending through 8th grade.

I have been pleased with my son's experience at Christ Episcopal School. The academics are solid and there is a focus on building character and community. A small student-teacher ratio ensures that students get individualized attention and support when needed. The faculty and staff here are engaged and care about students' success and well-being.

As a grandparent of a 7th grader, I am so impressed with the emphasis and cultivation of character traits, such as perseverance, self-discipline, respect, responsibility, etc with these growing children. To watch my grandson display these traits routinely with family and friends is heartwarming. The school goes the extra mile to provide varied resources and opportunities to each child, such as field trips, camping trips, yoga classes, finance classes, chess classes, etc.I have watched my grandson become a well-rounded, self-assured, intellectual young man getting ready for high school because of the caring found in CES.

We have been involved with CES for the past 7 years. We were drawn to the school because of its community feel, friendly admissions, and small class size. And also the convenient location. The students are all friends, regardless of grade and so, are the parents. We love that chapel is a part of their weekly schedule. The school is affordable. The teachers are approachable. And there are many opportunities for leadership for the kids. The staff/parent communication is awesome and there are many opportunities for parents to be involved with the school. The musicals are also a blast as well as the many school-led activities. The academic curriculum is manageable and the school supports diverse learning styles.

My son and daughter have been at Christ Episcopal School since they were in the Preschool 2's class and they are now in the middle school. For us it has been a wonderful experience. The care and attention that the teachers give our children is amazing. It feels like a family and the kids enjoy knowing all of the staff and benefiting from their wide range of education and experiences. We are always kept informed of our children's progress in school and when interventions may be needed. There is an excellent support staff for children that need additional attention, which adds to the already incredibly low student to teacher ratio. The administration is committed to maintaining high standards, meeting challenges head on, and looking forward to the future. I can't imagine our kids being anywhere else!

Parents at CES are actively involved in their children's education and the school community. They volunteer in their classrooms, help out with fundraising events, and serve on the school's board of trustees. Parents are also very supportive of the teachers, and they work together to create a positive learning environment for all students. This strong partnership between parents and teachers is evident in the way that students are treated at CES. Students are seen as individuals, and their teachers take the time to get to know them and their needs. Teachers also communicate regularly with parents, and they are always willing to work with families to ensure that all students are successful.

We love this school. It is academically rigorous, but also fun and nurturing. My child is thriving with the small class sizes and close-knit community. It is also extremely diverse. Another bonus is daily PE in addition to recess. Truly cannot list all the great things about this school-.I`m glad we found it and have become part of the CES community.

We love CES for the core values taught to the students. More importantly, the faculty and staff are amazing! If I had teachers like this when I was a kid, I would have loved school! If your child is struggling in school (particularly in the virtual world), please consider CES as a way for your child to succeed. Help them be successful today to succeed for their tomorrows.

I am a current parent and would highly recommend CES. CES has been such a blessing to our family. My daughter graduated from 8th grade a few years ago and was accepted into a private high school's STEM program. I currently have a son in middle school and I cannot brag enough about the teachers. They go above and beyond to make sure our students are challenged. The overwhelming support my son has received from his teachers have been incredible. My son was in the public school setting and we switched him to CES due to the small classroom setting. He was overlooked in the public school setting and needed a smaller learning environment. The detailed attention he receives from his teachers has helped him tremendously to be successful in his academics. CES was able to adjust to the virtual setting seamlessly. For example, during the virtual setting, each week we would receive a bag full of rocks, magnifying glass, candy or other materials to accompany the Science lesson. The teachers go out their way to make school engaging and fun! The school is now planning for the middle school to return to campus in January 2021. In addition, our current leadership is awesome! She is transparent with the community and we appreciate this. It is truly a close community and great place to send your child/children.

Christ Episcopal School (CES) is amazing! Our daughter has attended the school since she was 2 years old and has grown into a well-educated, kind, and confident 4th grader because of her experiences at CES. Her teachers over the years have challenged her academically and taught her how to be a problem solver, both academically and socially. Being a small school, the opportunities for students across the grades (Preschool to 8th) to interact and share common experiences is priceless. The students know each other; the staff knows all the students, and the parents have a shared commitment to the school. CES is really the hidden gem of schools in the Rockville, MD area. With specials such as Art, Library, Journalism (grade 4), daily PE, Music, Spanish, and optional orchestra (starting in 2nd grade), student days are well-balanced. Recently, the school has offered in-person and hybrid options for the lower school and preschool with the middle school students slated to return in-person in January. If you are looking for a school option where the needs of the whole-child are met, CES is the school for you!

We are so fortunate to have found Christ Episcopal School, where our bright but reticent child with attention issues has quickly blossomed and found his love of learning. The secret may be the small school and class size, and caring teachers with high academic expectations who understand how to motivate students to learn. For any parent considering an academically rigorous and nurturing school for their child, we highly recommend CES. Compared to tuition fees of private schools in this area, CES is probably the best value by far.

This is a warm and loving, family-like community with excellent academics. I graduated from CES myself, very well prepared for high school, college and the business world. It was always my hope to send my own kids there, and thankfully they are having the same experience I did. I cannot stress enough the quality of the amazing teachers and staff at this school. They are truly one of a kind. In addition to a strong academic curriculum, the school offers daily PE, art, music, Spanish and a wide variety of after school enrichment classes. During Covid, they were able to pivot to distance learning immediately and successfully, adapting as they learned what worked best for the kids. They currently have Kindergarten in person full time, with serious attention to safety procedures that we have been very comfortable with. Other grades are in a hybrid model with the same attention to safety while in school and the needs of the kids while learning at home. I am so grateful that my kids are CES students during this pandemic. During a pandemic or not, this school offers a caring environment where kids can thrive emotionally and academically.

I truly cannot say enough good things about Christ Episcopal School. My child started in pre-K and is currently in the lower school. First, I will say that the preschool is an absolute gem. The teachers are unbelievably warm and nurturing, and make each and every child feel special and loved. They do a wonderful job of teaching the preschoolers respect and love for others and are extremely skilled with conflict resolution, which results in a close-knit class that respects and is kind to all of their classmates. If that all sounds a little utopian, well, it kind of is! The lower school teachers continue modeling the mindset of compassion, acceptance, and respect for others, while fostering intellectual curiosity. Graduates are well-prepared both socially and academically for high school. I was impressed with the students from the moment I set foot in the school on a campus tour, as the Upper School "ambassadors" greeted us, made conversation, and were remarkably poised for their age. From the wonderful teachers and staff (all the way from "specials" teachers to the Admissions Office) to the welcoming and inclusive parent community, CES is, quite simply, a beautiful academic environment. I can't recommend this school enough, and I am excited for my other children to have the CES experience as well.

We are so blessed and happy that we found CES last year! This is my daughter's second year at CES and their virtual program is just as amazing as their in person instruction. She attended Montessori school for 7 years, and after searching, visiting, applying, and being accepted to multiple schools, CES was our top choice due to their phenomenal academic program, their small class sizes, amazing staff, and the great characters of the student they help build. CES is the best!

Amazing school! Our two children attended CES preschool through 8th grade and both were completely ready for high school. On high school placements test, they tested higher than grade level. The rigorous academics and small class sizes were perfect for both of our children and prepared them well for private high school.

Not just strong on academics, but also on developing the softer skills--confidence, independence, initiative, communication, and social skills. Graduates are not just ready for high school academics, but have the foundation to advocate for themselves, communicate easily with peers and teachers, take initiative, and demonstrate self-reliance in their school work and and other activities.

CES is a school with a nurturing community of students, teachers, and parents. The head of school and teachers know all of the students and parents personally. The academics are strong and the class sizes are small, allowing individual attention. Music, art, and performing arts programs are very strong. PE is every day and the PE teacher is great at creating fun instruction. The middle school students often travel for PE to take advantage of the wide variety of surrounding facilities for a broad exposure to physical activity, for example, swimming, gymnastics, weight lifting.

A great school for bright and eager to learn students. The rigorous program more than adequately prepares the kids to move on to HS. Most important though are the parents. It's not your snobby DC environment, everyone is down to earth and kind - a great place for kids and parents to make friends:).

A small school with big advantages, Christ Episcopal School has been a great experience since we started in pre-k. The academics are strong but the character building and supportive community of facility, administration and families is what makes the school special for us. Anyone in Montgomery County thinking about private school should check out CES.

Christ Episcopal School is a gem! The academic rigor and focus on building children of exceptional character is validated every time I step foot on campus. The entire community - parents, teachers and administration - is a caring and dedicated team. My 5th grader has attended CES since Pre-K and we grow more fond of the school each year!
